Specific project focus would be on La Buena Vida House for homeless high school students. La Buena Vida Youth Leadership Foundation exists to empower, inspire and educate today’s at risk and homeless youth to be tomorrow’s business and community leaders. We work to improve the lives of young people in North Texas who are in desperate need of a positive influence in their lives. Through programs that provide leadership development and higher education opportunities, participants see tangible benefits that last a life-time. La Buena Vida means “The Good Life.” We strongly believe that all young people deserve the opportunity to achieve their goals and improve their lives. All they need is a positive role-model in their lives and to be equipped with the right life skills, interpersonal skills and life principles. We help homeless youth, teen mothers, at-risk students, the economically disadvantaged and teens without mentors, role models or other positive life influencers. We do this through a multi-faceted approach that includes group workshops, academic scholarships, housing for homeless teens, and a large network of committed community members eager to make improve the lives of young people in North Texas, with an emphasis in Irving.
Impact: La Buena Vida House has just opened its doors. It is for high school boys who are trying to complete their high school education & graduate but are homeless due to losing their parents to terminal or mental illness, incarceration, abuse or abandonment. There will be on average 12 boys living in the house at a time.
Project Availability:
Volunteer Responsibilities: Responsibilities will depend on the type of project they would like to do to help La Buena Vida House or the boys who live there.
Attire: Casual
F&B Provided for Volunteers: We are a smaller charity with a smaller budget, so we can provide refreshments, but probably could not afford a full meal. Volunteers may feel free to bring their own if they wish.
Option to Move Project to a Different Location: If you wish to do a toilet paper, paper towel, meal in a can/box collection, you can do that off site from La Buena Vida House. We are always open to suggestions as well.
