Renaissance Jax is responsible for the regional growth and development of an international youth robotics program called FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology). We have a vision to build a FIRST team in every school in the region and provide program access to over 6000 students who design, build, and program robots for competition. We are generating the Cognitive Capital that our region needs to attract top employers. FIRST participants are eligible for over $25 Million in scholarship money.
Impact: If Jacksonville grows to over 6000 students annually participating in FIRST Robotics, then we will have the highest number per capita of robotics students globally. These students are leaders who graduate with hundreds of hours of hands on skills and experience working on interdisciplinary teams. We believe that companies will move to our city to hire our talent. Already we have had high school students win a Bill and Melinda Gates Millennium Foundation Scholarship and an $80,000 full ride to engineering school at Florida Polytech University.
Volunteer Responsibilities: There are many roles and responsibilities from judging to referee to score keeper to DJ to MC to fill in volunteers who help keep our event schedules on time.
Attire: Comfortable, casual clothing is great. If you are a MC you may dress in a costume, tuxedo, or jumpsuit or something else fun.
F&B Provided for Volunteers: Yes
Option to Move Project to a Different Location: We need space for hosting volunteer training sessions (classroom style) or event space for 300-500 people depending on the type of event being run. We would need to get you more specifics or a floor plan attached to make this section more viable.
