Description:

North Hills Community Outreach is a community- and interfaith-based organization addressing the needs of people in crisis, hardship and poverty. It is our vision that Northern Allegheny County is a sharing community where no one needs to be cold, hungry or alone. Our Food Pantry sites and Garden are the bread and butter of our organization, and it is how we initially reach a majority of the families we serve in other various ways. So it is very important that both are maintained and continue to grow.

Impact: North Hills Community Outreach serves approximately 450 families a month between the 3 food pantry sites. It is a much needed resource here in the North Hills of Pittsburgh. With the food pantry, comes our organic garden, which is used to harvest fresh organic produce to be given to our pantry sites. We feel it is important for the clients we serve to have access to fresh, organic produce. We focus on health and wellness in our pantries, and want to be able to encourage families to try new things and experiment in the kitchen with fresh produce. Food is just one piece of the puzzle when it comes to helping the residents in our communities, but it is a big important piece. We feel that it is the start to a major domino effect in our clients lives
