Description:

412 Food Rescue addresses the disconnect in distribution—in supply and access—by rescuing food about to go to waste and directly distributing to organizations that serve communities in need. We redirect unsellable yet fresh, healthy viable food to those who are food insecure.

Founded in 2015, 412 Food Rescue is one of the fastest-growing food recovery organizations in the United States.

Download our app – Food Rescue Hero – for iOS or Android and sign up to be a food rescue hero! Once you sign up and complete our mobile food safety training, you can go on a rescue!

Each rescue you accept will direct you on details of where to pick up and drop off specific food items.

Impact: 412 Food Rescue was launched in 2015 to bridge the disconnect between the 40% of food that goes to waste and the fact that 1 in 7 people experience food insecurity. We divert perfectly good food from landfills to feed people who need it the most by partnering with food donors and nonprofit agencies that serve people in poverty. While we have a truck that transports a portion of food we recover, we rely on volunteers - our Food Rescue Heroes - to transport the rest. In less than 4 years, we have recovered over 5 MIL pounds of food - equivalent to providing roughly 4 MIL meals - completing over 34,000 food rescues. Our volunteers have moved half of this food, enabling 412 Food Rescue to impact food waste and hunger throughout the region. Thanks to our food donors, nonprofit partners and volunteers, 412 Food Rescue has enabled 100,000 more people in poverty to be within 15-minute walk of a food access point - mitigating the impact of food and transit deserts. And, by working together, we have improved food security among 88% of the people whom we serve.
